Prayer for Marriage: Asking God for Love, Wisdom, and Grace

Marriage is built through ordinary choices: listening, forgiving, speaking honestly, serving one another, and choosing love when emotions are difficult. Prayer gives a husband and wife a place to bring both gratitude and struggle before God.

A Bible Verse for Marriage

“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” — Colossians 3:14 (KJV)

Christian love is not merely a feeling. It is a way of treating one another with patience, kindness, humility, and faithfulness.

A Prayer for Marriage

Father God, thank You for the gift of marriage and for the person I share this life with.

Teach us to listen before we defend ourselves, to speak honestly without trying to wound, and to forgive without keeping a record of every failure. Give us wisdom when we disagree and humility when we discover that we are wrong.

Protect our marriage from bitterness, pride, resentment, secrecy, and neglect. Help us make time for one another even during busy seasons. Remind us that small acts of kindness can strengthen a relationship over time.

Give us grace to grow together in faith. Help us carry one another's burdens without trying to control one another. Where there is hurt, guide us toward truth, repentance, forgiveness, and wise steps toward restoration.

Let our marriage become a place where Your love is practiced through everyday faithfulness.

In Jesus' name, amen.

When Marriage Is Going Through a Difficult Season

Prayer is not a substitute for honest conversation or wise help. Sometimes a marriage needs a quiet conversation, counseling, pastoral care, or practical changes in the way a couple communicates.

A difficult season does not have to be hidden behind religious words. Bring the truth before God and take the next faithful step you can take.

Reflection

  • What is one thing you appreciate about your spouse that you have not expressed recently?
  • Is there an apology you need to make?
  • Is there something you need to discuss calmly instead of continuing to avoid it?
  • What small act of love can you practice today?
